Eyeglass Care Tips! Easy Cleaning Methods at Home
If you wear glasses daily, you know how important proper care is. However, many people aren't sure about the best way to clean them. Do your glasses quickly become cloudy or accumulate stubborn grime even after daily wiping? Many simply use them without much thought. But, the habit of casually wiping your lenses with your sleeve or a tissue is a sure way to shorten your glasses' lifespan. Today, we'll introduce a method to keep your glasses crystal clear and clean, like new, in just 1 minute at home.
Why Cleaning Your Glasses is Essential
The lenses of the glasses we wear every day constantly accumulate not only invisible fine dust and air pollutants but also oils and sweat secreted from our skin, and residue from cosmetics. Simply wiping these contaminants away isn't enough. Regular cleaning using the right method is crucial to extend the life of your glasses and reduce eye strain.
Easy Cleaning with Dish Soap
The key to cleaning glasses is to safely dissolve the oils clinging to the lens surface without causing scratches. The perfect solution for this is none other than dish soap. Add 1-2 drops of dish soap to water and turn on the faucet with strong pressure to create plenty of lather through friction. The lather from a pH-neutral dish soap will perfectly protect the lens coating while effectively removing grease and fine dust for a spotless clean.
- Briefly soak your glasses in the soapy water and gently shake them.
- Never scrub the lenses vigorously with your hands.
Cleaning the Nose Pads and Arms
Beyond the lenses, the nose pads and the crevices of the eyeglass arms, which are in direct contact with your skin, are blind spots where sweat, sebum, and makeup tend to accumulate the most. For these areas, it's best to soak them in the soapy water and gently rub them with your fingers. After cleaning, rinse your glasses thoroughly with cool water to completely wash away any remaining soap residue. Avoid using hot water, as it can damage the lens's heat-resistant coating; always use cool or lukewarm water.
Finishing Touch: Using Vaseline
Finally, try using Vaseline, which most people have at home, for the finishing step. Applying Vaseline creates a coating on the surface, which helps reduce fogging and prevent scratches. On the completely dried lens surface, apply a very small amount of Vaseline with a cotton swab or your fingertip, spread it thinly, and then gently and thoroughly polish with a soft eyeglass cloth in a circular motion.
The lifespan of your glasses and the strain on your eyes can vary dramatically depending on how you care for them, as they serve as your eyes all day long. With just a few minutes of effort, you can maintain clear and comfortable vision, as if you're always wearing new glasses, without the hassle of frequent trips to the optician.
