Somsang Church Practices Warm Sharing for the Hearing Impaired

Somsang Church and Cheongum Welfare Center Support for the Hearing Impaired

Recently, Somsang Church has extended a helping hand to the hearing impaired and vulnerable individuals in the community. The donation ceremony, held in collaboration with the Cheongum Welfare Center on the 20th, was part of Somsang Church's 'Embracing Small Hopes' initiative. This act of kindness serves as a wonderful example of solidarity and love within the local community.

Donation of Funds and 'Love Boxes' Delivered

Somsang Church has committed to supporting three low-income hearing-impaired households facing financial difficulties by providing living expenses. A total of 11 million KRW in donations will be disbursed at a rate of 300,000 KRW per month from January 2026 to December 2026. Additionally, 500 'Love Boxes', valued at approximately 10 million KRW, were also distributed during the ceremony. These boxes contain essential food items like seolleongtang (a traditional Korean soup) and daily necessities, serving as a valuable resource for those in need.

Collaboration with the Local Community

The 'Love Boxes' were distributed to low-income families, children, and individuals with disabilities through various social welfare facilities, including the Cheongum Welfare Center, Gangnam Food Support Center, Dream Field People, and Vision Community Child Center. Over 60 members from Somsang Church's Love Sharing Department, including elders, executives, and members, gathered early in the morning to pack and transport the items, participating in the sharing with joyful hearts.

Commitment to Continuous Giving

Somsang Church's sponsorship for the hearing impaired continues this year, following last year's efforts. This is recognized not just as a one-time support but as a model of community collaboration in continuously caring for the lives of their hearing-impaired neighbors. Pastor Kim Kyung-jin of Somsang Church stated, "We hope this small gesture brings comfort and hope to our neighbors facing hardships," expressing his commitment to ongoing love-sharing activities with the local community.

Elder Choi Seung-in of Somsang Church's Love Sharing Department also shared, "We hope the hearts of our members, who participated in the volunteer work with joy from early this morning, are well conveyed to our neighbors in need." He added that they will strive to be a community that practices love and service by being with neighbors who need help.

Shim Gye-won, Chairman of the Korea Association of the Hearing Impaired Welfare, remarked, "Somsang Church's warm concern and support provide great comfort and strength to hearing-impaired individuals experiencing financial difficulties." He expressed his hope for the spread of a sharing culture where community members unite to accompany the lives of people with disabilities and care for one another.

Hong Hee-jung, Director of the Cheongum Welfare Center, said, "It is even more meaningful that the connection started last year continues this year." She pledged to do her best to ensure the donated funds and items reach those in need. The Cheongum Welfare Center plans to continue various case management and welfare programs in collaboration with the local community to improve the quality of life for low-income hearing-impaired individuals and vulnerable populations.
