Actress Jung Ae-ri's Ovarian Cancer Survival Story and Secrets
Actress Jung Ae-ri's story of overcoming ovarian cancer offers hope and courage to many. She candidly shared the journey she went through to conquer the challenging disease of ovarian cancer and the secrets she discovered along the way.
Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis and the Shocking Reality
Before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016, Jung Ae-ri received life-altering news at the hospital after undergoing surgery for peritonitis. The doctor's words, "You need to go to the gynecology department of the cancer center," completely changed her life. At the time, she learned she had ovarian cancer, also known as clear cell carcinoma, and realized it was a particularly difficult type of ovarian cancer.
The Pain and Overcoming Chemotherapy
The subsequent chemotherapy came with harsh side effects. After her first round of chemo, Jung Ae-ri's hair began to fall out, so she called a hairdresser to her home to shave it all off. She shared, "I even got my eyebrows tattooed in preparation for them falling out," and revealed that along with hair loss, foot pain plagued her. She described it as feeling "like sand was stuffed inside the skin of my soles," making it imaginable how intense the pain must have been.
The Secret to Overcoming: Being a 'Good Patient'
Until she received the all-clear five years later, Jung Ae-ri attributed her ability to overcome the illness to becoming a 'good patient'. She followed her medical team's advice without question and focused on treatment, specifically setting a goal to consume 200g of meat daily to maintain her strength. Her words, "I sought out and ate anything I could," reveal her serious commitment to treatment.
Consistent Exercise and a Positive Mindset
Jung Ae-ri also diligently kept up with exercise. Even though straightening her back was difficult after the open surgery, she consciously practiced straightening her posture and walking down the hallway, following a nurse's advice. These efforts greatly helped in preventing sarcopenia, a crucial factor directly linked to cancer patient survival rates. Sarcopenia is a deadly condition, accounting for 20-40% of cancer patient deaths.
Jung Ae-ri stated, "I told myself, 'This is a time to focus only on myself,' and that a positive mindset and thorough self-care were the driving forces behind overcoming cancer." Her story offers hope to many and will be a great source of strength for those going through difficult times.
