Lee Kyung-kyu Clarifies Stroke Rumors and Health Concerns

Broadcaster Lee Kyung-kyu recently addressed rumors about his health. Amidst speculation about a stroke, he appeared on the YouTube channel 'Kim Kook-jin Kim Yong-man's Road' to discuss his condition. Lee Kyung-kyu began by saying, "My throat felt a bit off during the latter half of my golf round last time." He shared that a friend of his acquaintance suspected, "Brother Kyung-kyu's speech is slurred, could it be a stroke?"

Health Check-up Results Show No Issues

In response, Kim Yong-man mentioned, "There were many news articles about health concerns." Lee Kyung-kyu explained, "It was just my voice getting hoarse from being very upset," adding that his recent health check-up showed no abnormalities. This appears to be an effort to alleviate concerns among fans and viewers about his well-being.

Symptoms and Causes of Stroke

So, what exactly is a stroke? A stroke is a neurological symptom that occurs when a part of the brain is damaged. The causes of stroke are diverse, commonly including smoking, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, and arteriosclerosis. In particular, diabetes is known to increase the risk of stroke by causing arteriosclerosis.

Strokes can be broadly categorized into two types. First, ischemic stroke (cerebral infarction) occurs when a blood vessel supplying the brain becomes blocked. Second, hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, causing blood to pool within the brain. This leads to a decrease in brain function due to insufficient oxygen and nutrient supply.

Stroke Symptoms and the Golden Hour

Stroke symptoms can manifest in various ways. Common symptoms include dizziness, headaches, vision problems, and speech difficulties. Symptoms like slurred speech or blurred vision may occur. Additionally, sensory abnormalities such as sudden numbness or weakness in one side of the face, arm, or leg can also be present.

The danger of stroke lies in its potential to lead to permanent brain damage. Therefore, it is crucial to receive reperfusion therapy within the golden hour of 4 to 6 hours. This treatment involves surgery to reopen blocked blood vessels and must be administered within the appropriate timeframe.

The Importance of Health Management

After treatment, it is essential to manage blood sugar and blood pressure. High blood sugar can negatively affect cerebral blood vessels, and hypertension increases the likelihood of cerebral hemorrhage. Furthermore, maintaining a healthy weight and managing lifestyle habits to prevent obesity or high cholesterol is crucial.

  • Consume whole grains instead of refined carbohydrates.
  • Frequently eat fruits, vegetables, and seaweed rich in dietary fiber.
  • Engage in regular exercise for at least 30 minutes, three times a week.

These efforts can significantly contribute to maintaining a healthy life. It is now necessary for us to be more aware of our health, inspired by Lee Kyung-kyu's experience.
